Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: dys- prefix, Greek λεκτικός.
Etymology: < dys- prefix + ancient Greek λεκτικός good at speaking (perhaps by confusion with λεξικός of or for words), probably after similarly-formed German dyslectisch (1883 in Neurol. Centralbl. 2 296; now dyslektisch ), ultimately after dyslexia n. or its etymon German Dyslexie . Compare dyslexic adj., dyslexic n.
