1961 H. Bauer et al. in Chromosoma 12 185 During the first maturation division the kinetochores of each chromosome..can be oriented in one of two ways: (1) They may be directed to the same pole (i.e. ‘syntelic’), or (2) they may be oriented to different poles (i.e. ‘amphitelic’).
1973 Chromosoma 41 197 The normal orientation of mitotic chromosomes is amphitelic.
1985 Cytobios 43 179 Simulation experiments suggest that chromosome length is critical in determining whether amphitelic or syntelic orientation will predominate.
2001 Chromosome Res. 9 175 Contraction of cores in late diplotene causes chromosomes to coil in a configuration that encourages subsequent syntelic orientation of sister kinetochores and amphitelic orientation of homologous kinetochore pairs on the spindle at metaphase I.
