Origin: A borrowing from Zulu. Etymon: Zulu amaZulu.
Etymology: < Zulu amaZulu < ama- , plural class prefix denoting people + -Zulu , self-designation (see Zulu n. and adj.). Compare slightly earlier Zulu n. and adj.The English form amaZulu (with a lower-case initial in the first element) reflects Zulu orthography. The Zulu etymon is a plural form (singular umZulu Zulu person); occasional English uses as singular, and hence plural forms with -s, are secondary developments.
