Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: epistasis n.

Etymology: Alteration of epistasis n. (compare epistasis n. 3) after nouns in -y suffix³. Compare German Epistasie (1913 or earlier), and perhaps also ancient Greek ἐπιστασία dominion (since the phenomenon involving non-allelic genes is equivalent to dominance (dominance n. 2) in allelic genes).With the form epistacy perhaps compare -acy suffix.
