单词 evermoe
释义

evermoeadv.

Forms: see ever adv. and mo adv.1
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: ever adv., mo adv.1
Etymology: < ever adv. + mo adv.1The other West Germanic languages show a comparable (apparently earlier) formation, but with slightly different second element; compare Old Frisian ammer , emmer , immer , Old Dutch iemēr (Middle Dutch emmer , immer , Dutch immer ), Old Saxon iomēr (Middle Low German iemmer , iemer ), Old High German iomēr (Middle High German iemer ; German immer ), all in sense ‘always’ < the Germanic base of o adv. + the Germanic base of more adv.; compare later evermore adv. In Old English attested earlier in sense ‘ever again’ (compare evermore adv. II.) than in sense ‘for all future time, always’ (compare evermore adv. I.). In earlier use often written as two words or with hyphen. (Word division in Middle English examples frequently reflects editorial choices of modern editors of texts, rather than the practice of the manuscripts.)
Obsolete (archaic and poetic in later use).
For all future time; = evermore adv. In later use only in for evermoe.Revived as an archaism in the 19th cent.In quot. 1583 perhaps a misprint for evermore.
