Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French annuité.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman annuité, annuyté, annueté, annuetee, annuitié (compare Middle French, French annuité (1607) payment made every year (c1300 or earlier)) < post-classical Latin annuitat- , annuitas annual payment (from c1400 in British sources) < classical Latin annuus annual ( < annus year (see annals n.) + -uus , suffix forming adjectives) + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).The β. forms are aphetic, probably arising from analysis of the initial vowel of the α. forms as the indefinite article (see a adj.).
