Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Anglo- comb. form, -maniac comb. form.
Etymology: < Anglo- comb. form + -maniac comb. form, probably after either French anglomaniaque person with excessive admiration for England (1779) or French anglomane Anglomane n. Compare earlier Anglomane n., Angloman n., and also earlier Anglomany n.
A partisan or admirer of England (or Britain), esp. one considered extreme or excessive.
