Etymology: < Anglo- comb. form + -phile comb. form, probably partly after French anglophile, noun (1783–8 or earlier) and adjective (1829); compare also French anglophilète, noun (1768).Compare the following earlier use of the form Anglo-phile in a pseudonym:1580 Second & Third Blast Plaies (title page) Set forth by Anglo-phile Eutheo. Compare similar use of post-classical Latin Anglophilus in e.g. Anglophilus Philanax (1661 as a pseudonym in a British source).
