单词 even-forth
释义

even-forthadv.prep.

Forms:

α. Middle English euene-forth, Middle English (in a late copy) even-forth, Middle English (in a late copy) even-forþ, Middle English evyn-forthe, Middle English–1500s euen-forth; Scottish pre-1700 evyn-furth.

β. Middle English emforth, Middle English emforþ, Middle English emforþe, Middle English enforth.

Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: even adv., forth adv.
Etymology: < even adv. + forth adv. With sense A. 1a compare even adv. 1. With sense A. 2 compare Old English swā forð swā to such an extent as, as much as. Earlier currency of the word (as adjective) is perhaps shown by Old English efenforþ , in uncertain sense, perhaps ‘equally advanced’, if this is not simply a transmission error: see quot. OE for even-worth adj. at even adv. and prep. Compounds 1b.
Obsolete.
