Etymology: Perhaps originally < Old French figé a dish of curds, substantive use of past participle of figer to curdle; in later use associated with fig n.1The sense ‘a dish of fish’ in N.E.D. derives from a miscopying in the Douce MS. (for the correct reading, see quot. 1381).
Obsolete.
In old cookery: a dish of figs, etc.
