Forms: Also Middle English–1500s fysk(e, 1500s–1700s fiske.
Etymology: Possibly a frequentative (formed with k suffix as in walk , talk , lurk ) of Old English fýsan to hurry, or of fésian , fýsian feeze v.1 Compare the synonymous Swedish fjäska, a frequentative of fjäsa to bustle, make a fuss.
Obsolete.
intransitive. To move briskly, scamper about, frisk, whisk; also with about, abroad, in and out, to and fro. Quot. 1906 is a deliberate archaism.
