Etymology: < Irish Fine Gael, lit. ‘family of Irishmen’ (1933) < fine extended family, clan (see fine n.⁴) + Gael , genitive plural of Gael Gael n.

One of the major Irish political parties, generally considered to be right of centre.Formed in 1933 following the amalgamation of a number of smaller organizations which were in favour of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, Fine Gael first entered Dáil Éireann in 1937.
