(within the women's liberation or feminist movement) a period of activity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by advocacy of equality between the sexes and the organized struggle to secure fundamental political, economic, and social rights for women, esp. the right to vote, to access the professions, and to own property; the movement associated with this period of activity.
