Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymons: Yiddish fleyshik, fleyshedik.
Etymology: In α. forms < Yiddish fleyshik < fleysh flesh n. + -ik -y suffix1. Compare Middle High German vleischic meaty, fat (German fleischig : see fleshy adj.). In β. forms < Yiddish fleyshedik, probably an alteration of fleyshik after e.g. lebedik alive ( < Middle High German lebendic : see lively adj.).In forms with final -e reflecting Yiddish inflected forms.
