Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin anemius , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin anemius (1506 or earlier; < Hellenistic Greek ἀνέμιος , variant reading for ancient Greek ἀνέμαῖος windy, empty, vain ( < ἄνεμος wind (see anemo- comb. form) + -αῖος, suffix forming adjectives)) + -ous suffix.
