Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: fly n.1, paper n.
Etymology: < fly n.1 + paper n., after German Fliegenpapier (1829 or earlier).
Paper coated with a sticky, and sometimes poisonous, substance, designed to attract and catch or poison flies. Also as a count noun: a long strip of such paper, hung from the ceiling.
