footlev.

Brit. /ˈfuːtl/, U.S. /ˈfudəl/
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: footer v.2
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps an alteration of footer v.2, with remodelling of the ending after verbs in -le suffix (compare e.g. diddle v.1 (beside didder v.), tottle v.1 (beside totter v.), etc.). Compare slightly earlier footling adj.2It has alternatively been suggested that this word is a borrowing of French †foutiller, (1718 or earlier), †fouteiller to fuck, to fornicate (1735 or earlier), but this would appear inconsistent with the register of the English examples below.
colloquial.
intransitive. To act or talk foolishly; to occupy oneself in an aimless or trivial way. Also with about, around.
