In Irish legend: a member of a fearsome people, usually considered to be giants or pirates, which inhabited Ireland until defeated by the Tuatha Dé Danann (Tuatha Dé Danann n.). Also (more rarely) in Scottish legend: a giant. Cf. Fomor n.The depiction of the Fomorians in Irish legend varies considerably, e.g. in some accounts they have goat- or horse-heads, and in others they have one eye, one arm, and one leg.
