Origin: A borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French framboise , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < framb- (in French framboise raspberry: see framboise n.) + -oid suffix, on account of a supposed resemblance of a cluster under magnification to a raspberry. Compare earlier framboidal adj.
Geology.
A microscopic, roughly spherical aggregate of a mineral (esp. pyrite) in sedimentary rock, typically occurring in a spheroidal cluster of such aggregates.
