释义 | Apterygotan. Entomology. With plural or singular agreement: a subclass of insects which never evolved wings and do not undergo metamorphosis. With plural agreement (also in form apterygota): members of this subclass collectively; wingless insects. Cf. Pterygota n.The subclass Apterygota comprises the orders Archaeognatha and Thysanura, and the extinct order Monura. It formerly included also the wingless orders Collembola, Diplura, and Protura, but because these have the mouthparts retracted into the head they are now usually placed in the class Entognatha.
