Etymology: Origin unknown.gamber and gambrel are both occasionally found in sense 1 in Herefordshire: compare quot. 1887 at sense 1. Welsh gambo (1866) is apparently a borrowing from English.

1. A low, flat cart, typically two-wheeled and with the sides consisting only of poles, used for carrying hay, corn, etc., over fields or uneven ground.
