Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: generation n., -ism suffix.
Etymology: < generation n. + -ism suffix. Compare German Generatianismus (1854 (in the title of a work by J. Frohschammer; compare quot. 1864) or earlier).
A theory according to which the human soul is passed from parent to child at conception in a spiritual process distinct from, but allied to, the physical generation of the body. Cf. traducianism n.
