Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek γένος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek γένος race, descent (see genus n.) + -ic suffix. In sense 2 apparently re-formed after gene n.2 Compare earlier eugenic adj.2, and also -genic comb. form.
