1902 A. J. Jukes-Browne Student's Handbk. Stratigr. Geol. x. 176 [In the Belgian Ardennes] the upper stage of the Middle Devonian is a massive limestone 1300 feet thick, and is well seen at Givet on the Meuse, whence it is known as the Givétien [(ed. 2) Givetian].

1931 J. W. Gregory & B. H. Barrett Gen. Stratigr. vi. 96 In central Russia the Eifelian is also absent, but the Givetian is represented by marls and limestones.

1967 C. Teichert & E. L. Yochelson Ess. in Paleontol. & Stratigr. 184 15 genera from the Eifelian and only ten genera from the Givetian Stage.

1967 D. H. Rayner Stratigr. Brit. Isles v. 161 Near Padstow the Middle Devonian is represented by grey slates with Eifelian and Givetian goniatites.
