Etymology: < Old French apendre (3rd singular il apent , whence Middle English variant apent ), to depend on, belong to, pertain < Latin appendĕre (in classical Latin only transitive) for appendēre , < ap- = ad- to + pendēre to hang (intransitive). Obsolete before 1500, and not connected (in English) with append v.2

Etymology: < (perhaps through modern French append-re ) Latin appendĕre to hang to. In form the same word as append v.1, re-adopted from Latin or French in the transitive sense of appendĕre , after the append v.1 had been long obsolete.
