释义 | habenry.n. Inferred from: ‘Habenries, architectural decorations of some kind, but the exact meaning of the term does not appear to be known. It occurs in Chaucer, some copies reading barbicans’ (Halliwell). The source is Chaucer's House of Fame 1189 (= iii. 99), where Skeat, by emendation, reads ‘Babewinnes’ (see baboon n. 1), manuscripts and early printed editions having various misreadings: MS. Bodl. Rabewynnes, MS. Pepys Babeweuries, editions 1532 (Thynne), 1598 (Speght) babeuries, 1602 (Speght) habeuries, 1721 (Urry) Barbicans. ΚΠ 1882 Ogilvie's Imperial Dict. (new ed.)
