Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: post-classical Latin hagiolatria.
Etymology: Probably < post-classical Latin hagiolatria (1539 or earlier) < hagio- hagio- comb. form + -latria -latry comb. form.
The worship of a saint or saints. In later use also (usually somewhat depreciative): the idealization or idolization of a particular person.
