Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: hand n., wringer n.
Etymology: < hand n. + wringer n., after to wring one's hands (see wring v. 3b).
A person who wrings their hands, esp. in grief, despair, or anxiety; (more generally) a person who gives vent to these feelings in any way, esp. as an exaggerated display of distress or anguish over some event or (now usually social or moral) issue or concern.
