Audubon 1829).The bird was originally called Henslow's bunting (1831 in J. J. Audubon Ornithol. Biogr. I. 360).

A New World sparrow of North American grasslands, Ammodramus henslowii (family Passerellidae), with streaked brown upperparts, dark stripes on the side of the crown, and a largely buff belly and throat.
