Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: archaeo- comb. form, -metry comb. form.
Etymology: < archaeo- comb. form + -metry comb. form. The term is attributed to the British archaeologists Sir Christopher Hawkes (1905–92) and Professor Martin J. Aitken (1922–2017).
The application of methods and techniques from the physical sciences to archaeological research, esp. for the dating, analysis, detection, measurement, or recording of archaeological remains; the field of study concerned with this.
