ice saint n. (also with capital initials) a saint whose day is traditionally celebrated during a spell of cold weather (chiefly in plural); spec. (in continental Europe) any one of the saints whose days fall within a short period in May traditionally believed to be liable to frost (see quot. 1922); (also) this period of cold weather. [In specific use probably after German Eisheilige in similar use.]
