Etymology: In 16–17th cent. indeleble , < Latin indēlēbilis , < in- (in- prefix4) + dēlēbilis delible adj.; compare French indélébile , -leble (16th cent.). The termination has been assimilated to -ible suffix.
That cannot be deleted, blotted out, or effaced; ineffaceable, permanent.
