Etymology: Acronym < the initial letters of Association of South-East Asian Nations.
The Association of South-East Asian Nations, a regional organization established in 1967 and intended to promote economic cooperation and growth within South-East Asia.The founder members of the Association comprised Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Subsequently the following countries have joined the Association: Burma (Myanmar), Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Brunei.
