Etymology: < German Johnstrupit (W. C. Brögger 1890, in Zeitschr. f. Krystallogr. u. Mineral. 16 75) < the name of Johannes Frederik Johnstrup (1818–94), Danish geologist and palaeontologist + -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy. Now rare or disused.

A brownish green mineral consisting of a silicate and fluoride of calcium, cerium, titanium, and other metals, later identified as mosandrite.
