1. Having the lower jaw hanging down, esp. as a sign of illness, age, or imminent death; spec. (of a child) suffering from or killed by neonatal tetanus. Also: lantern-jawed; hollow-cheeked. Cf. chap-fallen adj. 1a. Obsolete.
