Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Kansas.
Etymology: < the name of Kansas, a state in the central United States. The phrase not in Kansas anymore arises from the following line from the 1939 U.S. film The Wizard of Oz (based on the 1900 book by L. Frank Baum), said by the main character Dorothy upon realizing that she had been transported from her home in Kansas to the fantastical land of Oz:1939 N. Langley et al. Wizard of Oz (film script) (1989) 46 Toto—I have a feeling we're not in Kansas any more.
