Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymon: Middle French joncherie.
Etymology: Probably < Middle French joncherie deception, kind of entertainment using tricks and deception (mid 15th cent.) < joncher to deceive (mid 15th cent.; < jonc reed: see junk n.2) + -erie -ery suffix. Compare post-classical Latin juncaria good-natured deceit, joke (1370 in a British source). With sense 2 compare French jonchiere reed-basked to making cheese (14th cent.), French regional (northern) †jonquiere kind of soft cheese (17th cent.); with this sense compare also later junket n. 2b and junketry n.
Obsolete.
