Etymology: < Yiddish klutz < Middle High German kloz lump, block, ball, tree stump, in modern German (since c1500) also ill-mannered or clumsy person (see clot n.).

Originally: an awkward, socially inept person; a fool. Now more usually: a clumsy person.
