/ˌkɪtʃ(ᵻ)n ˈrʌdə/, U.S. /ˌkɪtʃ(ə)n ˈrədər/ A steering device for small boats, consisting of a propeller and a pair of curved metal plates which can be opened or closed around the propeller to control the direction of the thrust and enable the boat to travel forward, reverse, or remain stationary without any need to change the engine speed or reverse the position of the propeller.
