释义

langue de chatn.

Brit. /ˌlɒŋ də ˈʃɑː/, /ˌlɒ̃ɡ də ˈʃɑː/, /ˌlɑːŋ də ˈʃɑː/, U.S. /ˌlɑŋ də ˈʃɑ/
Inflections: Plural langues de chat, langue de chats.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French langue de chat.
Etymology: < French langue de chat long thin crisp biscuit (1867 in Littré; the use denoting a piece of chocolate is apparently not paralleled in French; earlier denoting a flat elongated seashell (1765)), lit. ‘cat's tongue’ < langue tongue (see langue n.) + de de prep. + chat cat n.1, the objects being so called from their resemblance in shape to a cat's tongue. In plural form langues de chat after the French plural form. O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) gives only the non-naturalized pronunciation (lāṅg də ʃa) /lɑ̃ɡ də ʃa/. Not fully naturalized in English.
A thin, crisp, finger-shaped biscuit; (also) a long thin piece of chocolate.
