Etymology: Apparently < light adj.1 + -y suffix6. In β. forms influenced by Afrikaans laaitie (1945 or earlier; apparently < English, and hence implying slightly earlier currency of the English word).
South African colloquial.
A young person; esp. a boy or male adolescent.
