(frequently with capital initials) (the title of) an officer of the municipal government of, or a local court in, some English boroughs, towns, etc.; spec. one of the officers of a court leet.Now historical or in the title of an officer of some of the small number of remaining courts leet, as Alcester and Henley-in-Arden (both in Warwickshire).
