Etymology: < manipul- (in manipulate v.) + classical Latin -andum -and suffix2.Corresponds formally with the neuter singular of the (apparently unattested) gerundive of post-classical Latin manipulare to lead by the hand (see manipulate v.); for similar modern formations compare cogitandum n. and analysandum n.
