Origin: A borrowing from Dutch. Etymon: Dutch meisje.
Etymology: < South African Dutch meisje (Afrikaans meisie ) < Dutch meisje (Middle Dutch meiskīn , meisīn , meissen , irregularly < meit (see meid n.) + -kijn , diminutive suffix, with epenthetic -s- ). Compare meidjie n.
