单词 | marshal general |
释义 | marshal generaln. 1. A senior officer in any of various armies, with exact rank varying according to period and country. Also with distinguishing word, as field marshal general, provost marshal general, etc. (see field marshal n., provost marshal general n.).In the Cromwellian army, the rank was directly superior to that of provost marshal. In the pre-revolutionary French army it was perhaps synonymous with the rank of field marshal or Maréchal de France.
