Etymology: < classical Latin mell-, mel honey (see mell n.2) + -i- connective + classical Latin sonant-, sonāns, present participle of sonāre (see sonant adj. and n.), after e.g. resonant adj. Compare post-classical Latin mellisonus (from 7th cent. in British sources, rare).
