Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: midden n., -y suffix6.
Etymology: Apparently < mid- (in midden n.) + -y suffix6 with alteration of stem, perhaps after midgy n. 1 (as suggested by Sc. National Dict. s.v., with the sense understood as ‘a haunt of midges’).
Scottish colloquial.
