Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mediocrity n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: < mediocrity n. + -ize suffix. Compare earlier mediocritization n. and mediocritizing n., and also French médiocriser (1907).
Originally and chiefly U.S.
transitive. To make mediocre, to reduce to a common level of mediocrity.
