Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: Latin mesuragium; French mesurage.
Etymology: Partly < post-classical Latin mesuragium act of measuring, measurement (from mid 13th cent. in British sources), measurage, fee for use of a measuring instrument (from late 13th cent. in British sources; variant of mensuragium mensurage n.), and partly < Anglo-Norman mesurage imposed charge reckoned by a measured amount, and Middle French mesurage action of measuring, also charge payable to the measurer of wheat and other grains (13th cent. in Old French) < mesurer measure v. or mesure measure n. + -age -age suffix.
Now rare (historical).
