Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin metallum , -eity suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin metallum metal n. + -eity suffix, probably after post-classical Latin metalleitas (c1360 in a British source). Compare French métalléité (1765). N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (metălīˌĭti) /mɛtəˈliːɪtɪ/.
Obsolete.
